DONJUAN CARTER-WOODARD
Book DonJuan to speak

Your audience doesn't need another speech about success.

They need a new way to understand what they survived. Keynotes and workshops that turn lived experience into a mirror the room can hold up to their own lives.

Why bring him in

A speaker who lived it

Oakland poet and author DonJuan Carter-Woodard came up the hard way — the streets, loss, a system that counted him out — and rewrote his own code into a life, a body of work, and a family of seven. He studied his craft under Bobby Seale, Amiri Baraka, and Umar Bin Hassan of the Last Poets.

On stage he doesn't perform expertise — he offers testimony. Audiences leave with language for what they've been through and a real move to make next. The author is always the student, never the hero.

Keynotes & workshops

Each runs 20–60 minutes as a keynote, or expands into an interactive workshop. Every one is built from lived experience — the framework carries the room.

Fathering Backwards

Becoming the father you never had

You don't need a blueprint you were never handed — you need to stop repeating the one you were.

  • Name the "code" you inherited from your father — or his absence
  • Trade the manual for the mirror: presence beats performance
  • The three moves: start now, show up, heal what hurt you
Best for: fatherhood & men's programs, faith & community orgs, reentry / second-chance audiences.

Rewrite the Code

The operating system of success

Your life is running on beliefs you never consciously chose — and you can change the code.

  • See the operating system running your decisions
  • Skills vs. systems: how value is created, owned, leveraged
  • Trace a belief to its source — and consciously rewrite it
Best for: entrepreneurs, professional development, personal-growth events, youth on the rise.

Tuition, Not Failure

Turning setbacks into the lesson that builds you

Nothing you've been through was wasted — if you know how to read it.

  • Re-file your "failures" as tuition — what did they teach?
  • Name survival skills as strengths, not scars
  • Turn grief and setback into purpose and direction
Best for: youth & schools, workforce development, reentry programs, anyone who feels behind.

Present, Not Perfect

Leading when you were never handed the manual

People don't need your perfection. They need your presence.

  • Escape the perfection trap that makes leaders disappear
  • Presence is a decision — 20 minutes, phone down, eyes up
  • Repair is leadership; build what doesn't collapse without you
Best for: leadership, parenting + community crossover, mentorship programs, teams.
